Alireza Rahbari

Senior Research Fellow, Australian National University, Australia

Dr Alireza Rahbari is a Senior Research Fellow and a leader of the Industrial Decarbonisation Research Cluster at ANU. He holds two PhDs in Engineering—one in the techno-economics of solar biofuels (ANU) and another in combustion (IUST, Iran). His research focuses on advancing the decarbonisation of energy- and emissions-intensive industries, particularly within the green metals sector, by developing integrated and scalable solutions that bridge scientific innovation and practical application. With deep expertise in combustion, reactor design, system-level modelling, and techno-economic optimisation, he leads transformative research addressing key challenges in renewable energy integration, green metallurgy, and industrial heat management. Through collaborations spanning academia, government, and industry, Dr Rahbari has played a central role in several high-impact projects supported by the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC), the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), and other national initiatives. He has successfully secured over $1.5 M-AUD as Lead Chief Investigator and $11.5 M-AUD as Chief Investigator on collaborative research projects. Dr Rahbari has authored more than 85 peer-reviewed journal papers, delivered over 20 conference presentations, and his work has received more than 2,500 citations (h-index 32), underscoring his impact in the field of industrial decarbonisation and sustainable energy systems.
